Welcome

Welcome to the English Civil War reenactment

website of the Marquess of Winchesters Regiment of the English Civil War Society (ECWS). The website gives information about the Regiment both at its events and its activities in the off season.

Over years the regiment has grown through the hard work of its members producing the “company” of English Civil War foot you see today. Well respected for its appearance and performance the regiment is busy throughout the country displaying the many aspects of the civil war period to the public. In addition to military side of the English Civil War we have a growing core of members who are taking on civilian roles at our living history events. These roles include a brewer, sutler, armourer – providing shot and match, washer women, herbalist and carpenter whom all can be seen at our large living history reenactment displays.

We have not forgotten our roots either and have embarked on research of Basing House before, during and after the English civil war, The Marquess of Winchester , Inigo Jones and the skirmishes that took place in Hampshire which Basing house played a part.

Eynsham Carnival Saturday, 5th July
EventsEynsham Carnival, Near Witney, Oxfordshire (12.00 - 6.00pm)
A few members of the Marquess of Winchester's Regiment will have a modest English Civil War encampment display at the Eynsham Carnival, which takes place on Saturday, 5th July. This will provide an opportunity to talk with ECWS members, and even to join the Society on the spot. You will be able to compare the many differences between an English Civil War soldier and a Morris dancer because the Eynsham Morris Men will be there as well. There is a Craft Fair, and many other attractions.

The Carnival went well - here is a link to a few pictures from the day.
