I want to be a Musketeer

Do I need a Licence to be a firing Musketeer?
Yes. Muskets are classed by law as shotguns, therefore a shotgun licence is required.

Also you would require a licence to recieve blackpowder.

The forms required for these licences are available from your local police force. Shotgun licences cost £75 and expire after 5 years. Blackpowder licences cost nothing but expire after 1 year.

The regiment will refund £25 of your licence fee once you have attended 15 events ( about 1 1/2 years) The time limit prevents members joining just for the subsidy for aquiring a licence')

What infomation do i need to fill out a shotgun licence application form?'
Guildance notes are available apon request.

NOTE - if you have a criminal record, aquiring a licence will be difficult.

Blackpowder where do I get it?'
'Blackpowder is issued to you by the regimental powder officer who has the required licences to issue blackpowder to licenced musketeers at events.

Do I need to buy my own musket?'
No. The regiment has a stock of 20 Muskets, these are issued to licenced musketeers - you will sign for the musket apon receipt and sign it back in when you return it.

It is expected that you clean the musket before you return it.

I want to be a musketeer and have all my own kit - what do I need?
Obviously you would require a musket - these cost between £250 and £450. 2nd hand muskets do occasionally become available.

The regiment will give guildance on the style of musket required. You would also require a set of bandoliers - the regiment can sell you a set either new our 2nd hand. These cost about £50 new.

Finally you would need a sword, again the regiment can supply a sword 2nd hand for about £50 or again give you guildance on the style of sword required.

As you see being a fully kitted out musketeer can cost alot of money, this is the reason why the regiment loans muskets, bandoliers and swords for members wanting to become a musketeer.

I have bought my own Musket how & where would I store it?
This varies depending on your local police force.

Some require you buy a shotgun cabinet, some only require to chain to a rafter in the loft. Please consult your local police force on their storage requirements.

Due to the nature of aquiring a musket the police force will be informed by the person / manufacturer that you have bought a musket from them. The police will probably visit checking on your storage facilities - Failure to store the musket correctly may lead to your musket being confiscated.

I want to be a non firing musketeer.
Sometimes members want to be a musketeer, but don't have the confidance to be a fully licenced firing musketeer

This is not a problem, the regiment will issue you a "Dummy" Musket exactly in the same fashion as a real musket. This musket looks exactly like a real one and has all the functioning parts a real musket has.

You do not need a licence to be a non firing musketeer.
