Battlefield Questions

Is there 1st Aid Cover?
'Yes, at small drill displays we have our own first aiders on site.

On our larger events the organisers arrange for a St John's team to be on site.

How can I tell one regiment from another?
The 1st difference you will notice between regiments is their coat colours, next is that every regiment has its own flag or "Ensign\ each flag has its own design and colour.

Do I have to take part?
Your peers will expect you to take part and join them on the battlefield or Living history encampment but there are exceptions.

You are looking after your children while your partner takes part.

You have an injury, or medical condition which prevents you from taking part.

You are on regimental business, at a meeting or on an errand - this usually applies to pre event drill as these tasks don't clash with the skirmish.

Remember a lot of work has taken place before the event organising all the tasks needed to be done before you can play soldiers and it would be polite to take part in the displays.

Are there any rules I must know when on the battlefield?
'There are many, but here are the important ones.

Never leave the battlefield without informing an officer of the regiment.

Never draw your sword unless instructed to by an officer. We are a pike and shot society, so if you really want to play with swords I would suggest joining the Vikings.

Never attempt to capture an opposition's flag or Ensign in the hope to gain some "glory". The flags are held in high regard by the regiments, and are only taken by prior agreement.

Obey the orders given to you by an officer.

Stay with your regiment.

No knives to be worn or carried on the battlefield

You must not be under the influence of alcohol or drugs. - The CO has the authority to prevent members taking part if he feels they are unfit to participate.
